Evening sportsfans!! its champions day at ascot tomorrow & we have a full preview of all the group races on the card which promises to be a belting days racing!!

1.45 Qipco british champions long distance cup 2m Group 3

the stayers get the ball rolling headed at the front of the market by the royal runner estimate who has obvious chances after winning the gold cup on her last start. she beat simenon a neck that day but the godolphin horse ahzeemah beat the same rival a head in the lonsdale cup off level weights. at ascot simenon gave estimate 5lbs where as tomorrow ahzeemah only has to give her 3lbs so i think the godolphin horse has to be the value e/w play here. hes two from three here at ascot & has done nothing but improve since stepped up in trip & there could well still be plenty more to come from the progressive 4yo.

2.20 Qipco british champions sprint 6f Group 2

i'm not so sure this is a vintage renewal to be honest & last years winner maarek has obvious claims after coming back to form over shorter trips recently but he needs a real strong pace to run at & i don't think he'll get that here but the problem is the rest are bordering on top handicappers & pattern race performers without being any outstanding performers amongst them although the 3yo viztoria is still unexposed & could run well. i think i'll take a chance with hawkeyethenoo though who was second here last year & has some decent placed form at the top level & he won't mind some give underfoot either. not a strong selection by any means but he will out run his price thats for sure.

selection: HAWKEYETHENOO e/w 14/1 skybet

2.55 Qipco british champions fillies & mares 1m 4f Group 1

the group one action kicks off with the ladies taking centre stage but its another race that i think has seen classier renewals if i'm really honest. oaks winner talent is the class act who ran a blinder when second in the leger & seems very happy on a soft surface so has to be respected & she holds the lark on there running at epsom. hot snap looked a superstar when winning the nell gwynn in striking fashion back in april but things haven't quite fell for her since & the jury's still out on her. waila was turned over at royal ascot but got back on track in no uncertain terms when dropped in grade to take a listed contest with minimal fuss but that was a poor race & she'll need to step up a bit to win this. the one i like however is the german raider nymphea. she was very unlucky when last raiding the uk but the form is solid with the third placed filly coming out since & winning the group 1 pretty polly stakes over at the curragh whilst she was taken back to germany to record a G1 success at hoppegarten. her action looks like she'll be far better suited with some give & her pedigree suggests she'll improve with time & looks a solid e/w play here.

selection: NYMPHEA e/w 12/1 corals

3.30 Queen elizabeth II stakes 1m Group 1 (Qipco british champions mile)

the group ones come thick & fast here and this looks like the race of the day to me. the 3yo's are headed by guineas winner dawn approach but he looked a tired horse last time out to me over in france & they might have gone to well once to often with him now. maxios looks like heading the older generation up but on his only venture to the uk he was slammed by al kazeem in the prince of wales stakes & whilst i accept that was on quick ground he looks far more at home on french soil at the minute. a few good judges whos opinion i respect have given top notch tonto a shout but i just can't see it if i'm really honest. soft falling rain & elusive kate can enter calculations on there best form but kingsbarns your guess is as good as mine after his re-appearance went pear shaped but if he gets involved here it will be the training performance of the decade by aiden o'brien. the horse we'll plump for though is the richard hannon trained olympic glory purely for the fact that everytime i look at his form his short head second behind moonlight cloud at deauville sticks out a mile & with intello & declaration of war in behind that is pretty much the best form on offer here. the first time blinkers are an unknown but connections are shrewd enough to know what there doing & whilst he has ground to make up on maxios on there run last time out theres no gaurantee the french raider will reproduce that run on foreign soil.

selection: OLYMPIC GLORY e/w 5/1 stan james

4.05 Qipco champion stakes 1m 2f Group 1

this race revolves around wether cirrus des aigles still has the ability he showed when running frankel to less than 2l in this race last year. on that line of form farhh can't beat him but this is a year later..cirrus' legs are a year older & hes needed to have his sights lowered this year in order to get on the scoresheet. whilst i wouldn't want to lay him as his record on a soft surface is immense i think i may have a decent e/w bet on morandi in this. hes ran in some decent races this year & his second behind intello in the french derby is pretty decent form following that rivals cracking run in the arc. he'll love the conditions & is still very much unexposed & his younger legs might just give him the edge here.

selection: MORANDI e/w 16/1 skybet

an e/w lucky 31 would be nice..

many thanks for taking the time to read my blog & as always i wish you the best of luck with whatever you decide for your money tomorrow & happy punting!! :-)

regards
ian
