Evening sportsfans!! a very sad day for the sport of horse racing today with the passing of sir henry cecil. i think the term legend gets banded around far to often these days but sir henry was that & more in all fairness. seen as some what of a playboy in his younger days he took the sport by storm in his early days & as a youngster my earliest memories where of oh so sharps triple crown & know one could train a filly like sir henry..they came out of warren place like they where on a conveyor belt with the likes of diminuedo.. bosra sham.. indian skimmer.. the list is endless.he then had a very lean time in the nineties & i always remember him having a runner in a nottingham maiden & i was there and two young lads where reading the form & turned to each other & said " whos HRA CECIL?" i was shocked but sir henry was at his lowest ebb at the time & it was the niarchos family owned filly light shift that put him back in the big time winning the oaks & its almost fitting that it would be one of his leading ladies that put warren place back on the map & saw the flag flying high once again.losing sheikh mohammed as an owner when the godolphin bandwagon took off was a very painful blow & lesser men would have wilted but with his staunch alye prince khalid abdulla still sending him horses cecil kept the show on the road & better horses started to filter into the yard. then begins the story of frankel, which will now go down in history.. and so will sir henry.. who, i believe, the word legend doesn't do the great man justice,a cap doff to you sir henry... thanks for the memories...
