Evening sportsfans!! slight change to the normal tomorrow blog wise as i've decided to preview a few races on terrestial t.v. for followers, here are my thoughts..

1.50 sandown 2m Henry VIII novices chase (Grade 1)

what a race to kick of proceedings & probably not far off the best novice chase run upto now this season. hinterland took the scalp of grandouet last time out & to be honest the henderson horse really didn't look a natural chaser to me, in fact far from it & i'm not sure would of won even if he had of stayed on his feet so i'll happily bypass him. balder success also falls into a grey area for me jumping wise & if you hit any of those railway fences at full pelt you can lose an awful lot of momentum here. the horse i'm going for is tony mccoy's mount TAQUIN DU SEUIL who has made a cracking start to his career over the bigger obstacles & showed real battling qualities to outpoint smart hurdler oscar whiskey last time out & hes plenty speedy enough to cope with the drop back to 2m. after only six lifetime starts over timber he looks open to any amount of improvement & i think you will certainly see him at the festival come march.

2.05 aintree 3m 2f Becher handicap chase (Grade 3)

alot of the usual suspects make an appearance here with alan kings walk on a likely one following his 2nd to triolo D'alene in the topham in april. following that horses recent success off a 15lb higher mark in the hennessy he could well play a part here but the one i'm going to side with is last years runner up JOIN TOGETHER. hes had a run to blow the cobwebs away this season & comes here on a 2lb lower mark. hes not as exposed as others in this field & looks a value e/w play here.

3.00 sandown 2m Tingle Creek chase (Grade 1)

the absence of sprinter sacre is a blow for the sponsors as racings superstar chaser was due to make his seasonal re-appearance here but at least it gives another horse the chance to pick up a 2m G1 this year!! new kid on the block sire de grugy puts his champion chase credentials to the test but to be honest if hes a 169 rated chaser then book me a ticket on the hogwartz express because i'd find that more believeable! enigmatic mad moose will add a bit of interest down at the start if nothing else & they try a hood tomorrow to see if that gets him in the mood which is a real shame as he does clearly have some ability but i've a feeling nigels belt might be waving like a windmill down at the start. kauto stone could be interesting back at the minimum trip but he hasn't shown anything for a while & he could have fallen out with the game. captain conan took the novice chase on this card last year & racked up three G1 victories in an impressive first season over the larger obstacles but mick channons SOMERSBY is a very strong fancy here. hes had a very stop start career but was very smart as a novice when with henrietta knight & also isn't to keen on the mud but on decent ground this fellas a decent tool i can assure you. he beat module & cue card on his re-appearance which whilst i acknowledge he was in reciept of lumps of weight & it was cue cards seasonal debut but he really got stuck in that day & showed a very willing attitude which is nice to see in any horse & i think he'll just have a bit to much class for these although i expect captain conan to give him most to do.

3.35 sandown 3m 5f London National handicap chase

this could well turn into a war of attrition & choc thornton comes here to ride godsmejudge rather than go to aintree to ride the alan king horses there & last years scottish national winner has strong claims after showing up for a long way on his re-appearance behind alvarado at cheltenham three weeks ago & the run will have done him the world of good. paul nicholls has his string in rude health at the minute & his theres no panic is another that would be in with a shout but the horse i've plumped for is the bottom weight FRANKLIN ROOSEVELT. now hes as slow as a boat but he just keeps galloping & that might well be enough to win this up the stiff sandown hill. hes been steadily progressive throughout his career so far & this is by far his toughest assignement but he finished behind fine parchment on his last run who has come out today & franked the form with another victory & with kieron edgars 7lb claim he will be carrying a featherweight here. i remember watching him at my local track leicester earlier this year & all he did was stay, nothing else, no change of gear, just stayed & that may well be enough here.
